The preparation work on the project took up the majority of the project. The whole property had to be stripped of loose masonry paint, wall by wall, then the walls had to be sprayed and brushed with a fungicidal priming agent to kill off any algae and growths on the walls. Then each wall had to be stabilised with Zinsser Peel Stop, it is the only good solution that binds the mature walls together whilst letting a suitable masonry paint breath. Once this was all done and ready we finally moved onto Painting. External Paint can be a minefield unless you have good experience with paint systems. Given the budget my absolute best solution for Mature External Walls is always Wethertex AP77 Smooth Masonry Paint. The Paint Creates a weatherproof shield against the worst our British weather can throw at it all whilst letting the building shed moisture. I have used maybe a dozen different masonry paint systems over the past 30+ years and Wethertex AP77 is hands down, the very best paint for mature buildings.
