The clients briefing for this project was that the room was cold, damp, draft ridden, the floor wasn't stable and one of the solid wooden windows required manufacturing and replacing.
We decided to remove all the mud and lime plaster from the walls which were covered in non permeable paints to allow the room to begin the process of drying out and been able to breath once more. This took considerable planning and labour. Due to the property been around 350 years old and needing to breathe through the solid Lincolnshire stone and lime mortar cement we decided to create an isolated system. This allows the external structure to breathe and hydrate independently of the new room.
We created a pressure treated framework that stands away from the existing stonework and used a closed cell foam insulation system that was fully taped and sealed. The new insulated frame was then boarded and skimmed prior to decorating.
Once completed, the external stonework can now take on and loose moisture as designed and the newly created room is warm and dry.
The new window was manufactured and sprayed before been installed, the new window frame was matched to the existing solid wood windows throughout the property.
We are always interested in traditional property alteration projects and will be happy to hear from potential clients.
