As part of a larger project we carried out in the summer of 2025 we were working on a 1700's Cottage in Waddington, Lincolnshire.
There is a small window, which in winter, lets cold air seep through into the room. As the window unit was in good condition we decided to strip the existing window and refurbish it then custom build a secondary glazing unit on the inside of the room with a dual track and sliding panel. This allows isolation from the cold in winter and also full access to the existing window through the summer months.
We previously in 2022 carried out a major renovation to one of the master bedrooms including stripping the bedroom back to the stonework, re pointing the internal walls with NHL (Non Hydraulic Lime 3.5) The Non Hydraulic Lime is sympathetic to the 300 year old building, it allows for slow setting, the ability to let the building move with the seasons and it allows moisture to travel through the mortar. The bedroom was then fully insulated with an isolated cold gap to allow the existing walls to breath whilst creating a warm internal room. The room was then boarded and skimmed and painted. This room is comfortable in all seasons, warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
